Parent Mentor Program

Parents are trained as mentors and volunteer in a classroom four times a week for at least 100 hours per semester. Parent Mentors directly support students in improving their math and literacy skills and provide additional social emotional support. This will help ensure the students' immediate and long-term success. Parent Mentors also have weekly training on literacy, computer skills, leadership and more.

Parent Mentors help to fill the equity gap by volunteering in schools and create positive change through parent engagement. This program has English and Spanish-speaking mentors and serves 875+ kindergarten through 5th-grade students at six Waukegan elementary schools.

100% of surveyed teachers said Parent Mentors had a positive impact on student engagement, behavior, and the overall classroom environment.
