Building a Bridge of Trust

The start of school can feel overwhelming for a young child, and for Jazmin, those first few mornings were filled with tears. The new surroundings were so daunting that she was too timid to eat her breakfast.

Recognizing her anxiety, her Kindergarten Countdown Camp (KCC) teacher reached out to connect with her mom. During their conversation, her mom shared what might be causing Jazmin’s worries. That open communication laid the foundation for a supportive partnership between home and school. The connection gave her mom peace of mind and provided staff with the insight they needed to help Jazmin feel safe.

With gentle support from her teachers and the friendship of her classmates, Jazmin’s world began to shift.

Classmates helped guide her through the morning routines, cheered her on as she zipped down the playground slide, and even helped put her shoe back on when she needed assistance.

By week two, the tears were replaced with morning smiles. Jazmin began actively engaging in learning centers and laughing with friends during free play. By the third week, she walked confidently through the school doors each morning, grabbed her breakfast, and headed straight to her classroom to join her friends.

At home, the difference was remarkable. Jazmin was excited to share everything she had learned at KCC with her family. Her mom also noticed significant growth in Jazmin’s social skills and confidence.

KCC did more than ease Jazmin’s morning tears. It created a bridge of trust for her and her family. Now, as Jazmin steps into kindergarten, she does so with greater confidence and a community of support cheering her on every step of the way.
